May 9 2010: 1 day, 5 countries, 7 cities and 10 films presented by the European Parliament
9 May is Europe Day which, this year, celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration as the cornerstone of the European Union. On this occasion, in partnership with UGC, the European Parliament screens 10 movies from the three-year-old filmography of its LUX Film Prize.

May 9 2010: The European Parliament celebrates cinema on Europe Day
Prague, Sofia, Warsaw, Edinburgh, Lisbon, Slovenia, the Netherlands,... they are all cities or countries where, among others, the European Parliament's Information Offices give you the opportunity to see one of the LUX films on 9 May, i.e. Europe Day.

April 30 2010: 'Welcome' released by the European Parliament for visually- or hearing-impaired people
Welcome by French film director Philippe Lioret won the 2009 LUX Prize awarded by the European Parliament. The LUX Prize consists of subtitling in the European Union's 23 official languages. There is an original language adaptation for the deaf and hard of hearing, as well as an audio description for partially sighted persons.
This adaptation allows the distribution of cinematic art to the widest number of Europeans.
April 15 2010: Both Mundruczó and de Oliveira in the Cannes 2010 Official Selection
What links Hungarian director Kornél Mundruczó and its Portuguese master pear Manoel de Oliveira? Besides being both in the Cannes 2010 Official Selection respectively for A Frankenstein Terv and O Estranho Caso de Angélica, they took part in the European Parliament Film Prize competition.
Delta by Kornél Mundruczó competed for the 2008 LUX Prize while , Manoel de Olveira's Belle toujours contended for the first ever edition of the European Parliament's Film Prize in 2007 edition.
February 22 2010: The 19 members of the 2010 LUX Prize Selection Panel
Every year, a jury determines the Official Selection for the LUX Prize. This panel includes: producers, distributors, exhibitors, festival directors or film critics. One third of the selection jury is renewed yearly, and its members are appointed by the European Parliament’s Committee on Culture and Education. The jury includes the previous LUX Prize winner. The European Commission sits on this jury as an observer (MEDIA programme).
The German actress Hanna Schygulla received an honorary Golden Bear on 18 February 2010 at the 60th Berlinale. The European Parliament takes this opportunity to congratulate Mrs Schygulla for her lifetime achievements. One of these was her magnificent performance in Fatih Akin’s Auf der anderen Seite, which won the 2007 LUX Prize. The President of the European Parliament personally handed the award to Mrs Schygulla on 24 October 2007.

It was announced today in Strasbourg that this year's European Parliament LUX Film Prize has been won by the film "Welcome" by the French director Philippe Lioret. This film received the majority of EP members' votes.

On Wednesday 25 November the EP President Jerzy Buzek will award the third LUX Prize for the European Cinema. The 87,000 euro prize will finance the subtitling of the winning film in the 23 official EU languages and the producing of a 35 mm print per Member State, making it more accessible to viewers throughout the EU.

For its 2009 LUX Prize Competition, the European Parliament has selected three films: Eastern Plays, Sturm and Welcome. In this context, the EP will host a series of events on Tuesday 10 November in its Brussels premises. Major European film directors and cinema players will discuss the topicality of the contending films and, in partnership with the Goethe Institute, the first -ever DVD edition, with 30 languages on a single disc, of the 2007 LUX Prize winner Auf der anderen Seite.
